In 1918, the Munich firm of J. A. Maffei delivered the last locomotive 3673 of the 73-unit S 3/6 series (S - Schnellzuglokomotive/High-speed steam locomotive; 3 coupled wheels; 6 axles) to the Royal Bavarian State Railways.
From 1925 until it was decommissioned, the 21.4 m long, 120 km/h machine ran under the number 18 478 for the DRB and DB.
Its special feature was not only the "power of four hearts", i.e. the four-cylinder compound steam engine that powered the 88 tonne beauty with over 1700 hp, but also the special aerodynamic cab of the locomotive crew!
The "S 3/6 3673" has been in the Bavarian Railway Museum in Nördlingen since 1993 and is "under steam" again this year.
