In 1905, Ringhoffer's factories in Smíchov started the production of a single type of two-axle trams for the Prague electric railways. The famous Czech Art Nouveau architect - Jan Kotěra - designed the tram and influenced the colour of Prague streets for many years.
The trams were produced in several modified series and the derived types not only drove the streets of České Budějovice (Budweis), Most, Teplice, but also carried hotel guests in sun-drenched Dubrovnik.
These elegant red cars are a rewarding subject for filmmakers and illustrate the period atmosphere in many Czech and foreign films.
Nowadays, they can be seen on Prague's historic lines 42 and 43 or at various transport events in Olomouc.
