556.0 series - Štokr, the perfect Czechoslovak freight locomotive and also the most numerous locomotive series in the country. Between 1951 and 1958, the Pilsen ZVIL works produced an impressive 510 of them.
The locomotives were intended for the heaviest freight trains on the main lines across Czechoslovakia. They hold the still-standing record of being the heaviest train during the heavy-weight movement of the 1950s.
They served with dignity on secondary lines until the complete end of steam operation in 1981.
To this day, several non-operational Stockers have survived in Czechia. But there is great hope that at least one of them will breathe new life.
